Prerequisites to complete steps
- Network connection via dongle
- With this, will also need to do Mac address passthrough (same as instructions in Solutions):
- Restart the machine, repeatedly press "F10" to enter the BIOS
- Enter the BIOS password when prompted (This can be found in Delinia)
- Navigate to the "Advanced" tab, then select "Mac Address Passthrough" near the bottom of the list
- Change "Host based Mac Address" to Disabled
- Press "F10" then select "Save Changes" - this will restart the device
- With this, will also need to do Mac address passthrough (same as instructions in Solutions):
- LAPS password tool
- PRV account
- Active Directory RSAT tools installed or accessing them via RDP to desktop-util jump box running as your PRV account
Step 1: Deleting from the Domain
On Users' PC:
- Login using the local admin account .\ditadmin on the pc (using LAPS) [Note: it needs the . before \ditadmin so it recognises the local PC name.]
- After logging in, check the wired connection is working by loading a web page before proceeding (even if the network icon shows as connected)
- Open Advanced System Settings > Under Computer Name tab. Click Change Check Workgroup and type WG, it will prompt for credentials and a reboot. Do Not Reboot.
Your PC:
- Open Active Directory Users and Computers tool. Search for the computer name. Double click on the name & check under Member Of to see the Group memberships. This should just be Domain Computers & Device based licensing but if there are any other groups, take a screenshot.
- Find the PC again, right click on computer name and choose move then browse to Disabled PCs 2026, click OK.
- Then search for the pc again then right click and delete the object. (the move to disabled UO prior to deletion is required or you may receive a permission error)
Step 2: Rejoining the Domain
On User's PC:
- Open Advanced System Settings > Under computer Name tab. Check Change and on the next pane check Domain and type uoa.abdn.ac.uk it will prompt for credentials. Use your PRV account when prompted and then a reboot.
Your PC:
- Open Active Directory Users & computers tool. Search for the computer again. Right click it and move it back to the Managed Devices > Windows > Workstations > Remote or Non-Remote depending on the chassis type - laptops will be Remote & desktops will be Non-Remote.
- login to domain as normal
